Representation in the media that we consume is vital in moving towards an inclusive and accepting society. It is important to portray people as they are to create a broader understanding of the people, cultures, identities and religions around us, as well as offer a form of validation and acceptance in seeing yourself portrayed in media knowing that you are not alone in this - however there is still progress to be made in this representation.
The Sight & Sound publications - packaged as a VHS and cassette tape - dive into representation of the LGBTQ+ community across film and tv series. Sight explored the complex LGBTQ+ characters that occupy our screens, putting particular focus on scenes where characters discuss their identity or come out as the experience is unique to each of us so diverse representation matters! The additional Sound publication goes hand in hand with Sight, pairing a song with each piece of media explored within the project. Many of us connect to media through the music choices accompanying the scenes as it has immense power in helping us to navigate and express our emotions regardless of what is happening. Collected in a public playlist, each song is expressive of the film/ series vibe, featured on their soundtrack, or has been created by a member of the film/ series cast.
